Cochin Shipyard Limited Marine Engineering Training Institute (METI) commenced the Graduate Marine Engineers (GME) Course in 1993.
The Marine Engineering Training Institute (METI) of the Cochin Shipyard Ltd is providing One year pre-sea marine engineering training for graduate engineers
Present annual intake capacity – 114 nos.
This 12 months course is mandatory for continuing with the 6 months Shipboard training prior to appearing for Class IV Certificate of Competency exam (MEO Class-IV) to become an Officer in charge of an Engineering Watch in a manned engine room or as a designated duty engineer in a periodically unmanned engine room of Merchant Ships. METI has engaged with the Institute of Marine Engineers to enlist as student members of IME which enables them to be in the forefront of marine engineering technology as it evolves.
The training course is fully residential with excellent reading rooms, computer facilities and further the course is predominantly practical oriented with 60% of the course time dedicated to workshop and afloat training. The training includes skill development in workshop facilities such as fitting, welding and machining, and also familiarization of the shipboard machineries by actually dismantling and reassembling these equipment’s. METI has sufficient workstations dedicated to providing the necessary training. The trainees participate in repair and overhaul of equipment’s on ship under experienced Shipyard Supervisors/Workers.
